How Chikoyaki Began

Chikoyaki is named after my beloved Chihuahua - a small companion with a big heart.

After nearly a decade of collecting Japanese scrolls and pottery, I wanted to share that quiet passion with others. In 2018, I founded Chikoyaki Shop, and earlier this year, I finally began building our online home - the Chikoyaki Shopify store - with one goal: to create a space where my love for Japanese art could be shared with you.

Here, you’ll discover traditional paintings, refined calligraphy, exquisite tea utensils, and vintage ceramic works from the most celebrated Japanese kilns and traditions - Bizen, Kutani, Satsuma, and many more.

Our mission is not just to sell art, but to build a cultural journey - one where the values of Japanese craftsmanship are honored, preserved, and carried forward. Each piece embodies the quiet beauty of wabi-sabi - simplicity, imperfection, and depth - where even a single flower vase can express a profound Buddhist philosophy.

I fell deeply in love with a celadon-pink glazed vase - a piece that carries the quiet beauty of mono no aware. Its pale, fading hue reminds me of pollen gently blown away by the wind - a tender impermanence that the Japanese see as the essence of mono no aware: the fleeting, fragile beauty of all things.

All our items are carefully sourced from exclusive antique markets and member-only auctions throughout Japan. Each piece is inspected, handled with care, and shipped via leading international express services to ensure it reaches you safely and beautifully.

Chikoyaki exists for those who seek not only Japanese art, but the quiet emotion behind it - where clay, ink, and time meet to tell the story of beauty that fades, yet never disappears.
