Dragon Tiger Wind Cloud | Japanese Sosho Calligraphy Scroll | Signed Sekiei 1984 Showa Era

$109.00

A genuine vintage Japanese kakemono (hanging scroll) hand-brushed in sosho (grass script) calligraphy featuring 龍虎風雲 — Ryūko Fūun — Dragon, Tiger, Wind, Cloud. Signed by calligrapher Sekiei (石暒 — Stone Radiance) with notation 甲子如月 (Kinoe-ne, Second Month — February 1984). Mounted on rare army-green silk brocade with lacquered black rollers — a bold, uncommon mounting color that amplifies the martial energy of the text. Aged washi paper with natural light foxing confirms authentic vintage age.

THE MEANING: CLOUDS FOLLOW THE DRAGON, WINDS FOLLOW THE TIGER
龍虎風雲 originates in the ancient Chinese classic I Ching: 'Clouds follow the dragon; winds follow the tiger.' It speaks to the convergence of extraordinary talent and destiny — when the right people meet at the right moment, unstoppable power is born. In Japanese art and feng shui, this phrase is a supreme symbol of nobility, ambition, and the seizing of great opportunities. Displayed in the homes and offices of leaders, martial artists, and anyone who understands that fortune favors those who are ready.

THE BRUSHWORK
Sekiei's hand is unmistakably masterful. The strokes of 龍 (Dragon) open with massive ink pressure that gradually releases — a technique requiring complete physical commitment. 雲 (Cloud) ends with dramatic hihaku (flying white) where the brush skips across the paper at speed, leaving ink-white gaps that communicate pure velocity. The four characters move down the scroll like a living thing: dragon coiling, tiger leaping, wind sweeping, clouds gathering.

DISPLAY & STYLING
The army-green mounting pairs beautifully with dark wood furniture, leather, concrete, and modern industrial interiors — as well as traditional Japanese tokonoma alcoves. Hang in a study, home office, dojo, or entryway for maximum presence. Allow 60cm of clear wall on each side.

COLLECTIBILITY
Signed and dated sosho works by named Showa-era calligraphers are increasingly valued as Japanese midcentury art gains global recognition. The 1984 date places this in Japan's late economic boom — a period of extraordinary cultural confidence. Original mounting intact.

Ships worldwide rolled in acid-free tissue in a rigid tube.
