Vintage Japanese Celadon Vase, Seiji Glaze, Jade Green Ceramic Jar, Boxed

This vase belongs to the same broad seiji (celadon) family as the classical pale-green ware long prized in Japanese tea culture, but takes the glaze in a more vivid, saturated direction. Where the palest historical celadon glazes lean toward a quiet, powdery sage, this piece carries a deeper, glossier jade-green — the kind of color that reads as confidently decorative rather than restrained, catching light across its full, rounded jar-like body.

The form itself is a classic rounded vessel shape, its shoulders swelling out generously before narrowing again to a small, stable foot, with a flared mouth rimmed in bright white glaze that offers a clean contrast against the green body. On the interior rim, a cobalt-blue mark has been brushed by hand beneath the glaze — almost certainly a maker's signature, though we're noting honestly that we can't decipher the specific characters with confidence from available photographs.

What we can confirm directly is the ware type: the piece comes with its original wooden storage box, its lid inscribed plainly with 青磁花瓶 (seiji kabin) — "celadon vase" — a straightforward label rather than a workshop signature, but still a genuine point of confirmation rather than guesswork on our part. A small red seal is also present on the box, adding a further, if not fully decoded, mark of care in how this piece was originally kept.

As with all celadon ware, the glaze's green tone comes from iron oxide reacting under reduction firing — a controlled, technical process rather than an applied pigment — and the smooth, glossy finish here suggests careful, confident glazing and firing rather than an amateur attempt at the technique.

As a decorative vessel, its bolder, more saturated color makes it a natural centerpiece rather than a background object — equally suited to holding a single dramatic branch or standing on its own as a study in color and form.
