A joyful and iconographically complete vintage Japanese kakemono of Daikoku-ten (大黒天) -
the God of Wealth and the Kitchen, one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods - depicted with all his 
attributes: black cap, magic mallet, rice bales, lucky sack, and his sacred messenger the 
rat. Inscribed "painted in winter, Year of the Rat" - the artist chose this subject for 
exactly the right year. Zenga enso halo. Signed and sealed. Grey-green brocade hon-hyōgu 
mounting. Shōwa era. A scroll of pure Japanese good fortune.
