Every Bizen tokkuri (徳利) is a record of one firing. This one records something rare: the hi-iro (緋色, "fire color") amber-tan that forms when Bizen clay oxidizes in the anagama kiln, and over it — dominating the body — a large, deep yōhen (窯変, "kiln transformation") oval where localized reduction concentrated the iron in the clay to a profound dark brown. The two zones meet at an edge that has no parallel in any applied-glaze tradition: it is not painted, not brushed, not planned. It is the direct record of where reduction ended and oxidation began, inscribed in fired clay at 1,250°C. A small-scale tokkuri for sake or water — complete, functional, and deeply Bizen.
